“Old Milon” by Guy De Maueassant, Old Milon may be considered “smart” or “clever” by other people, but I have to disagree. Old Milon in his slaughter fest killed a total of 16 innocent soldiers who didn’t even do the act of murdering his family. His actions may have caused the same if not more pain to over ten times as many people. Old Milon told the soldiers that he had killed the others himself straight up without any hesitation. Following which he didn’t take the Prussian Generals offer of survival and continued to disrespect by spitting in his face even though he had already done what he had intended to do. A kid would not decline an offer to skip dinner but still get dessert. That shows me that he doesn’t have any guilt or pain in taking the lives of others. Even if he had hate for them he shouldn’t be proud of an action such as this. The only explanation possible that comes to mind is simply madness.
